Channel 47 is On our Side

Our thanks to Channel 47 On Your Side which sponsored a "Donate to the Boys & Girls Day."  People dropped off their donations at the Channel 47 headquarters.  We received nearly $600 in cash, along with enough school supplies and backpacks for 150 kids.  In addition, new and used sports equipment was donated.  Java Central donated coffee and pastries.  The Fresno Grizzlies gave away tickets to a came.  Our thanks to Channel 47 for their support of the boys & girls.

Clubs Host Central Valley Training Conference

August 10 & 11 more than 80 participants from central California and as far away as Marin came to Fresno for the first Central Valley Training Conference.  The Fresno, Tulare and Sequoia Clubs joined together to plan this event.  The focus was on national BGCA programs such as Power Hour, Triple Play, Attracting Teams, and on local issues such as Bullying, Teenage Mental Illness, and Non-violent Crisis Intervention.  H Spees highlighted the closing lunch.  Thanks to Fresno Regional Foundation, Costco and Coca-Cola who helped sponsor this event.

Rotary Donates 200 Backpacks

East Fresno Rotary Club donated 200 hundred backpacks, along with school supplies to fill them.  They will be distributed among all our clubs to kids that participate in our educational programs.  Our thanks to the Rotarians.

Clubs Participate in National Night Out

Clubs in Del Rey, Sanger, Orange Cove, Firebaugh, East Fresno, West Fresno, and Parlier are participating in the National Night Out, the annual event which focuses on crime prevention in local neighborhoods.  Arlene Mendoza, one of our Directors of Operations, says, "Our National Night Out Events help our neighborhoods get to know each other better.  Law enforcement and our residents build a relationship of trust and respect.  Together with the Housing Authority support we take a step against crime."  This year we will also be participating at events in Reedley and Fowler, even though we don't have clubs there.

Day For Kids in September

The Day for Kids is an annual September event to honor America's children by spending quality time with them.  It's about celebrating kids.  You can volunteer to help and spend some meaningful time with our club kids.  You can help kids develop a positive self-image and a sense of belonging.  For information contact Arlene Mendoza at arlenem@bgclubfc.org.
