Issue#15                                                     October/2011

Dear Daniel,

Huron Club Shows New Face

Huron Grand Opening

Thanks to the generosity of Westside growers, farmers and ranchers, more than $70,000 was raised for improvements at the Huron and Firebaugh Clubs. On Wednesday, September 28th, an Open House at Huron showcased the changes: new computers, printers, TV's, furniture, books, shelves, art supplies and games. In addition, the Unit Director's hours were increased and a part time staff person was added to reach out to high school girls. Our thanks to the Westside leaders.

Kid's Connection at Reedley Club

 Kaiser Permanent Reedley Club Event

The brand new Reedley Club received a boost with a $34,500 grant from Kaiser Permanente. More than 200 people attended the kickoff event at the Reedley Community Center September 20th. Kid's Connection is an effort to bring senior adults and youth together to focus on healthy activities and nutrition programs. Physical activities, healthy snacks, and cooking classes will be offered at the Reedley Club. The Seniors will become mentors to the students.

Comcast Youth Summit & Expo

Comcast Tech Summit

Six youth and three staff participated in a Comcast Youth Tech Summit on September 24th. The purpose of the summit was to share best practices on connecting youth and adults through technology. Focus was on issues like cyber-bullying, and community involvement. Youth from the Fresno Clubs demonstrated computer software created through Digital Connectors.
