Kate Henry
has been
appointed
Youth
Engagement
Team
Manager. The
Youth
Engagement
Team, funded
by a grant,
is part of
the Building
Healthy
Communities
initiative.
It brings
together
many
agencies in
our
community
that work
with youth,
in order to
coordinate
activities
and develop
partnerships
that help
young
people. The
goal,
according to
Henry, is to
create a
better
school
environment
for
students,
and
encourage
youth to be
engaged in
civic
activity.
Kate
formerly
served as
Executive
Director of
the Down
Syndrome
Association.

Digital
Connectors |
|
|

Digital
Connectors is a
skills training
program for
youth in
information
technology and
community. In
partnership with
Comcast, the
Boys & Girls
Club of
Zimmerman
created this
program for kids
ages 14-18 at
the Zimmerman
Club. Students
commit to a one
year, six hour
per week,
training
session,
learning to work
with software
and hardware,
and developing
people as well
as computer
skills. The goal
of the program
is for students
to receive a
Cisco
Certificate, the
first step
toward
international IT
certification.
Thirteen
students are
currently
involved in this
project. |

The San
Francisco
Giants baseball
club
sponsors Jr.
Giants, and
the Boys &
Girls Clubs
are
participants.
The program
is for ages
5-14 and six
of our Clubs
participated,
with more
than 170
youth
involved. In
addition to
learning how
to play
baseball,
the kids
work on
educational
projects,
reading,
art, and
anti-violence,
as well as
better
health. For

September 10th at
the Sierra
Sports & Racquet
Club. The theme
this year is,
"There's No
Place Like
Home". Save the

County Housing
Authority get a
big "thank you"
from the Boys &
Girls Clubs for
selecting the
Huron Club as
the beneficiary
of their school
supply drive.
Dozens of school
supplies as well
as a $500 check
went from Kohl's
to the Huron
Club. |
